As I was scrolling back through the beatdowns at the grove recently, I realized it’s been a while since we did a Deck of Death. BUT, it’s National Chocolate Mint Day and I wanted to celebrate that too. So I decided to make the warm up theme-related and then the main beatdown the Deck of Death.
Warm Up – IT felt like 20 outside so I knew we needed to get moving quickly. Pax chose between two food items as their favorite and did the corresponding exercise for a few reps/seconds.
Thin Mints (high knees) or mint oreos (butt kicks)
Mint cocoa (diagonal punches) or mint tea (front kicks)
Peppermint patties (jump rope) or Andes Candies (jump twists)
Grasshopper pie (toy soldiers) or mint chocolate chip ice cream (through the tunnels)
The Thang – so for this deck of death I added in some jokers and when those came up Pax ran a lap all the way around the grove circle. Here is the list of rounds and exercises we did for each card suit. The rounds lasted 8 minutes each. The number of reps corresponded to the number on the card with face cards and aces being 15 reps.
Round 1 – Hearts – goal posts; Diamonds – mountain climbers sets; Spades – crockpot squats; Clubs – cross leg crunches sets
We then took a lap to the stop sign and back
Round 2 – Hearts – bicep curl to OH Press; Diamonds – jumping jacks; Spades – curtsy lunges sets; Clubs – lower upper squeeze release
We took another lap to stop sign and also had a joker come up in Round 2
Round 3 -Hearts – tricep pulses IC; Diamonds – toe taps sets; Spades – pendulum sets; Clubs – russian twists sets
We took another lap to the stop sign and another joker appeared also.
Round 4 – Hearts – front raises; Diamonds – butt kicks sets; Spades – clam shells sets; Clubs – scissor kicks sets (it had been a long time since we have done scissors so it felt good to get that burn today!)
We had a few minutes left after running a final lap to the stop sign so we did the Pink Hustle song challenge that Spartan brought to the grove last week that I missed. For this one you do Pilates 100 and then when Pink says “hustle” you do an In and Out. There are LOTS of hustles just so you know! Thanks PC and Spartan for joining me and I hope our other ladies are safe traveling and having fun!
