I love searching for the national holidays to see if there is something fun I can plan my beatdowns around, and for today there was National Giving Hearts Day. So I thought how fun would it be to use the conversation hearts as the focus and link an exercise to the sayings on the candy hearts. Well, my plan didn’t quite work the way I hoped because you can’t really read the messages on most of the hearts – it’s just a blob of color. So I cut out construction paper hearts and wrote sayings on them instead. Three of us got there early for some additional steps, and at 5:30 there were 6 of us together ready to warm up. We started with arm circles, swimmers, some static stretches and gorilla swings. We then took a short jog to the spot where I had set the bowl of paper hearts so Pax could see where it was.

The Thang – So I started things off by running to the bowl with the paper hearts to pick one out while Pax stayed in the group and did toy soldiers until I got back. Once I got back, we read the saying on the heart and found the corresponding exercise on the board. Pax then started doing that exercise while the next Pax ran to grab a heart from the container. Once that person came back we would switch to the exercise that went with the saying on that person’s heart and the next person would run to the bowl to grab a heart. I think you get the idea. With each turn, Pax would move the bowl back 10 steps so we were adding distance to the run and a little more time and exercise reps to those in the group. When we reached the end of the lane, we started moving the bowl back toward the group with each turn.

For a list of the sayings and exercises, look at the Board picture at the bottom of the backblast. Because no one likes burpees, I made sure to put a couple of hearts in the bowl for us to do burpees. As punishment for whoever pulled out the heart that matched doing burpees, I decided they would have to run a full lap while Pax were doing the burpees. Well, as luck would have it, I was the only one to pull a heart that made us do burpees. So I had a nice jog around the parking lot but there didn’t seem to be a whole lot of “burpee-ing” happening when I got back.

With 3 minutes left, we decided to stop drawing hearts and did the exercises we hadn’t yet done or had only done once (windshield wipers and y-raises). We then did COT and NOR, took a picture, and I handed out little bags of hearts (dove chocolates and the candy conversation hearts). Thanks for joining me ladies!
