Miles in the bank. Keep saving and depositing for a future. Tap into that strength when you need it. It’s there, built with lots of sweat equity. Keeping up the deposits of long runs mileage is really hard to do when the temps rise and the humidity is so thick you can cut it with a knife.
The alarm seemed to be so early this morning, but the reality is that the sleep was just sub-par. Knowing there would be at least 1 FiA sister awaiting me at the starting line was motivating enough for me to drag myself out of bed and down to Etowah Park.
Boy was it worth it! The ride there featured a beautiful full moon hanging low in the sky as glimmers of daylight streaked pink and blue. Arriving at the park revealed not 1 but 6 more PAX rolling out to build their mileage base too. Making deposits of hard work and sweat for a future hopefully filled with races and greater distances.
After a quick COT and name-o-rama we headed out for 5+ miles on the trails and in the lots. Guac and Valor grabbed around 9, Chinchilla had an impressive 10+ !!, Diggity Dog and Chocolate Chip and Hallmark got at least 6+!! I settled for 8.5 after no rest days in a week.
Despite my intentions of going slow and my lack of sleep due to a tap on my forehead at 4am by my smalls, I found myself strong and able to take on more than I thought I would. Perhaps it was the fact that Diggity and Chinchilla made some loops of support and Chocolate Chip, Valor, Guac and Hallmark had waves, smiles and encouragement at every pass that made the hot, humid miles easier. We really are better together. Out there on the trails, at all the speeds and distances we cash-out the sweat and make deposits not only for our health and endurance but also in our bonds of friendship and “sisterhood” that is FiA.
Cheers to a good week ahead and many more miles together!
