I had 6 PAX join me Saturday morning at the River for one of my all time favorite FiA routines (Walls of Jericho). I love this routine but thanks to my Friday morning devotional I came to love the this story & it’s application to our daily lives even more (more on that later).
We warmed up with arm circles forward, arm circles backward, Toy Soldiers (IC) & Through the Tunnels (IC) then got started on the Thang.
Walls of Jericho is a routine based off the story in the book of Joshua where the Israelites marched around the walls of Jericho for 7 days. How it works is you do 7 reps of 7 exercises then run 7 laps around a building or structure & repeat it 7 times.
Our 7 exercises:
- Imperial Squat Walkers (sets)
- Merkins
- American Pie Sit-Ups
- Goal Press to Overhead Press (sets)
- Bear Squats
- Reverse Crunches
- Shoulder Taps (sets)
There was some debate on whether we did just 7 rounds or if we actually did 8 but once we finished the Walls of Jericho routine we still had a good bit of time left. We did a round of Sally, took another lap then did a round of Bat Wings. We had 10 minutes left after Bat Wings so we did some yoga style stretching by rolling a yoga dice & then I threw in a couple of my favorite stretches at the end.
We took a quick picture then circled up for COT & NOR. I talked about my devotional & what it taught me about the Biblical story of WOJ. The Lord led the Israelites to the promised land but as they approached they saw the Walls of Jericho standing in their way. God promised Joshua he would deliver Jericho, its king & it army into his hands so I’m sure he was confused when he simply commanded them to march. For 6 straight days they marched, even when nothing appeared to change, they kept being obedient & kept marching until finally on the 7th day God brought the walls down. It’s hard to continue marching when we don’t see God move the way we thought He would. It’s sometimes difficult to trust that He’s working behind the scenes but we must choose to walk by faith, not by sight. We don’t have to understand the “why” of God’s ways but we do have to keep choosing to follow him. God is always present & will always work things out in accordance with his plan.
